E-waste, e-scrap, electronic waste or electronic equipment waste is essentially electrical or electronic devices that people throw away. This is a problem for Canada, as well for many developed and developing countries around the world. If you do not process the electronic waste properly it can cause significant health and pollution problems.

Electronic scrap components, such as CRTs, have dangerous contaminants such as lead, cadnium, beryllium, mercury and flame retardents. Such harmful chemicals and compounds can also leak into the ground and water so care must be taken when recycling e-waste.

Consider re-use of electronic / computer equipment, it is beneficial to the environmental and it benefits society as well.

Re-use contributes to less demand for new products and raw materials (with their own environmental issues); less use of pure water and electricity for associated manufacturing; less packaging per unit and diminished use of landfills.

This page helps you find computer, e-waste recycling resources.
